CHENNAI: A recent interim order banned the dubbing or reproducing of Sun TV megaserial 'Thangam' in any language but Tamil. The order, arising from a case filed by film distributor K S Geetha seeking stay on its Tamil telecast too, was passed on December 9.

Geeta filed a case in the Madras High Court in July, seeking a stay on the telecast of Thangam, besides asking for compensation for losses suffered by her. Vision Times India Pvt Ltd, actor Ramya Krishnan, who plays the protagonist, her sister Vinaya Krishnan and Thangam’s credited writer, Ashok Kumar, were accused in the case. Geeta accused them of using a storyline whose copyright she had purchased from writer Kutty Padmini, a week before the serial’s telecast in June.

The interim order passed last week, while not stopping the telecast of the serial in Tamil, barred the respondents from telecasting the serial in other languages.

Geetha announced to the press on Monday that she would soon be filing an appeal on receipt of a certified copy of the court order.

“But even prior to filing a case, Sun TV chief operating officer Hansraj Saxena threatened me through my close people not to go to court about the issue. If I did, I would suffer like Sharath Reddy, who was reportedly manhandled when he jumped sides from Sun TV to Kalaignar TV, he warned.” The interim order also stated that the deposits and payment of charges be worked out, while ordering for the main case to be expeditiously disposed of, following a written statement by all the defendants
