INGENIOUS paintings adore the walls of the La Galerie D’ Expression at Ambassador Pallava. These paintings are lively and convey messages that are intended by the artists.
When you step in to take a look at artist R Arun’s works, it is Lord Ganesha who welcomes you. His works revolves around various idols.
It was during his stint with Lima Indo German Limited, where he worked for three years, he came face to face with the artistic calling. Realising his talents, his friends recommended him to join Government College of Fine Arts.
He has taken part in many painting competitions and exhibitions in Chennai, Bangalore and Puducherry.
“I completed my diploma in Photography and Cinematography. For the past 6 years, I am partnering with my friend at Art Expressions to teach people who love art,” says Arun, whose inspirations are Boris, Ravi Varma, Antony Dass, Alphonso Arul Dass and Manian Selvam.
Another artist who has exhibited his paintings at the gallery is C Pandi Selvam.
His works depicts his admiration towards the architecture of a house with 1000 windows in Karaikudi.
“From my childhood I was amazed watching at the magnificently designed houses with 1000 windows in Karaikudi. This inspired me to go to those places and to paint the doors and the stunning windows. Also, the olden walls made of red mud were reflected with beautiful textures in my paintings.
I thought to take my art works of doors and windows of spectacular Karaikudi architecture to the eyes and minds of people. Now most of these houses are getting older and the maintenance has become difficult. I want to preserve this in the form of paintings and display it to the public,” says Pandi Selvam, who teaches art lovers of all ages at Art Expressions in Chennai.
His paintings of old windows and doors are amazing and through his works he takes us to a different world. The deplorable conditions of the walls are displayed in his paintings. Artists R Arun and C Pandi Selvam’s works titled ‘Expressions 2009’ are on view till June 15 at La Galerie D’Expression, Ambassador Pallava, Egmore.
