Transforming life through yoga

“YOU might wonder why we’re teaching yoga and tantra in India, so to speak,” smiles Emanuel Langhoff in a beguiling fashion. “These days, the West is moving towards the East, and vice versa. It’s here that we need to go back to where we came from. And in all of India, Chennai seemed the best place.” Yoga, they say, transcends the barriers of age, country and mindsets, giving inspiration and the urge to live to any practitioner. A little of that is in evidence in a small, air-conditioned room just off Mount Road, in the Satya Esoteric Integral Yoga Centre located in Chockalingam Nagar. The center’s spiritual guru is Gregorian Bivolaru (Greig), who is the source of the given spiritual teachings from the lineage of Gupta Mahasiddhayoga.

As a few curious individuals take their seats on ethnic spreads, Emanuel Langhoff and “Uma” Cleo Lukkarinen take the centrestage. As improbable as they seem in the settings – they are the teachers, having been practitioners of Hatha yoga and tantra for 17 and 9 years each. Emanuel begins the yoga conference, starting from basics about the Yin and Yang theory, moving onto the meaning of Hatha yoga.

“Every attitude, posture, thought or emotion created in us, through the process of resonance with similar universal energies, is an amplification of the corresponding attitude,” explains Emanuel. “We integrate, in a unique way, the secret law of resonance with yoga techniques.” Offering a way out from everything as banal as boredom, to more serious problems such as depression, Emanuel and Cleo are supremely confident of their success, explaining the various chakras in the human body, and illustrating a few yogic postures too.  “You have to steadily increase the time count and maintain the posture to obtain results.”

Their schedule of intensive tantra and yoga classes is arranged on a yearly basis. “It’s not about being immortal – all we have to do is be alive,” they smile.
