Chennai's fashion envoys

Pupa to butterfly stories. That's what Miss Chennai and Chennai Man have so far underscored in the books of beauty pageants in the city, ushering to light the metamorphosis statements of the girl/boy next door to the style ambassadors of Chennai. Keep in mind, it began with Trisha clinching the first ever Miss Chennai crown.

This year at the Vivel Miss Chennai and Vivel Chennai Man, the stage is set for other such stories, where the twelve finalists will battle it out elegantly on the ramps for the imperial crowns. The nascent modeling skills of the contestants and their rudimentary talks will, in the next eleven weeks, be groomed, thanks to Viba, the organisers, for their sound selection of the procedures to get them fit for the finals. Fitness trainer/dancer Jeffrey Varden has so far been dedicatedly working, trying to burn a few inches off some of the contestants and getting them move gracefully across the ramps, with his Brazilian samba and tango classes.

Of the 750 applications that flooded in to Viba, 300 were called for screening, out of which, 20 were short listed and finally cut down to 12. The show promises to be unique, as it is the first ever fashion reality show to be aired on television, with Star Vijay getting hold of the rights to it as a reality series beginning April first week.

Conceived and produced by the sisters duo, Vidya Balakrishnan and Shoba Ravishankar, the beauty pageant has been around for the past nine years, and this year, to make the contest more appealing to the public, they have thrown open contests, in three categories- jingle making, crown designing and question framing, wherein people can send their entries and stand a chance to clinch prizes.

"We are in search of Chennai’s fashion ambassadors. It's not just about good looks. An all-round personality is what we are looking for," the sisters pointed out. "There will also be various sub-events, fund raiser programmes, social awareness camps and adventure trips as a part of the show," they signed off.
