CHENNAI: It was a show of solidarity, as they all ran together the abled, differently abled, the young and the old, for a cause along Marina beach on Sunday evening.
Citizen Run, in its twelfth year, is going strong with every passing year, with around 3,500 people participating in the Sunday’s event. It was originally started in 1996 to create awareness and raise funds to support small voluntary non-governmental organisations (NGOs), who actively work for the socially, economically and physically disadvantaged people.
Ranvir Shah, trustee of the Citizens’ Run Trust, said, “The idea is to fund NGOs who are doing great work, who are in need of funds” This time too, three beneficiaries were selected to share the funds raised by the sale of T shirts for the run. They are: Vanavil School for Gypsy Children, Selvi Memorial Illam - Society of Nutrition Programme for the HIV affected and Vasantham Mobile shops.
Kaval Preet from Round Table India said, “We have been working with Citizens’ Run Trust for the past six years. It feels good to give back to the society.” Lot of corporates also participated in the run.
Nigel E Wark, executive director, marketing sales and service of Ford India, said, “I am pleased to be a part of this. There is a lot of goodwill around. As we share similar objectives, we see a lot of synergy to work with Citizen’s Run Trust.”
