CHENNAI: The Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) programme of SRM University has received accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). This is the first ECE programme in India to receive the prestigious American ABET accreditation, said University officials.
"Accreditation is a mark of quality of a programme. We are proud to have received it," said SRM University Vice Chancellor Prof P SathyanaÂrayanan. "We were testing the waters with the ABET accreditation for the ECE programme. We will now confidently apply for the accreditation for our Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology and Biotechnology streams as well," he added.
The accreditation would make it easier for students to apply to foreign universities as the accreditation was widely respected across the world, Sathyanarayanan said. The University would also endeavour to get its management programme accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
He hinted that SRM University could be considering expansion plans. "There is currently proposal to open a law college. We might start it if we find good personnel to lead and run it."
