

CHENNAI: Rhythmic fireworks for 15 minutes and a total recall of selected programmes based on epic Silapathikaram by folk artists marked the culmination of week-long Chennai Sangamam at Elliot’s Beach on Saturday.
Amid a sea of humanity at the beach, Sangamam coordinator Kanimozhi flagged off the rally of folk artists, who lined up to enthral the visitors at a stage erected inside sandy stretch.
It was a non-stop visual treat for visitors as the sky along the beach was lit with different colours for about 15 minutes.
Rhythmic fire works enthralled the crowd who were looking at the sky every time to find the different styles of lights coming out of bursting crackers.
Earlier in the day, procession of folk artists in their traditional attires flattened the spectators with their upbeat dance before entering the stage. Several thousands of people had converged the beach to witness the grand finale of the annual affair. On stage at the grand finale, over 400 folk artists presented different forms of arts and the crowd went gaga over every folk dance.
Visitors’ cheering sound was reaching high at the end of every programme and the crowd mainly the youngsters started dancing to the folk tunes on sand. Adding fame to the culmination ceremony, well-known female folk singer Chinnaponnu enthralled the audience with her trademark folk songs on lullaby.
Food courts at Tamil Food Festival along the beach stretch presented variety of distinct delicacies to the visitors.
