Bilva music organised an enthralling concert on Saturday evening at Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan. K Bhaskaran, an accomplished flutist, is the first in Chennai to perform a musical piece on the shankha-vadyam or the conch-instrument. He began the kutcheri on the conch performing in a perfect resounding Om-Khara, and the Vedic Sloka, Sahana Bavathu performed on a melody of three swaras (notes). Later, Sriganapathi and Saraswathi Namosthuthe followed, enthralling the listeners. Raga Shankarabaranam was the highlight of the kutcheri. Marudamalai Maamaniye immortalised by the great Madurai Somu of yesteryears, literally transported the listeners to a different world and emotionally moved rasikas got up and praised the flutist. Tavil maestro A K Palanivel also performed on the occasion. The other accompanists were Kalaimamanis MA Sundareswaran on violin,EM Subramanian on ghatam, and BS Purushotham on kanjira.
