CHENNAI: Lack of tolerance and compromise among couples has increased divorces in the country, former Supreme Court Judge and former Law Commission Chairman, Justice A R Lakshmanan, has said.

Addressing a gathering after releasing a book titled ‘Karuppu Silanthi’ (Black Spider) authored by Santhakumari Sivakatatcham here on Saturday, Lakshmanan said, “Though there is no second thought that women need freedom in the liberalised world, the boundary of such freedom has to be well defined.”

If they don’t mind about the boundary for their freedom, it would end up creating chaotic scenes for them only, he said.

In a matrimonial setup, differences are bound to occur among couples and a give and take policy would only help them to sort out issues, which would take monstrous proportion if not settled sooner, the former Supreme Court Judge advised.

Handsome earnings and financial independence from man (husband) has made most women to cross the boundary of freedom given to them, and ultimately it ruins their life only, he cautioned.

Besides others, Dr Sudha Seshayyan,Registrar in-charge in the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, V Irai Anbu, Tamil Nadu state Tourism Secretary and actor-director Parthiban spoke at the book release function.
