Music director Chandrabose no more

CHENNAI: Chandrabose, a popular music director of the 1980s, passed away here on Thursday morning. He was 60. Chandrabose scored music for more than 120 films in Tamil and Telugu.

Chandrabose scored music for more than 120 films in Tamil and Telugu. "Superstaru yaarunnu ketta" the song exalting Rajinikanth in his film Raja Chinna Roja was one of his famous compositions. Other popular films that he was part of include Manidhan, Pudhiya Paadhai, Maangudi Minor, Paatti Sollai Thattaadhey, Sankar Guru, Maanagara Kaaval, Vasanthi and Anna Nagar Mudal Theru.

He also proved his mettle as a singer, with his most famous song being his debut, "Yendi Muthamma" in Aaru Pushpangal. Recently, he also made a plunge into acting through a role in Mekala, a serial on Sun TV and acted in the 2008 film Kathikkappal.

Chandrabose, along with composer Deva, began his career through light music performances. He got his first break as singer and music director in 1977, when he recorded Yendi Muthamma for M S Viswanathan. In the same year, he was introduced as a composer by director V C Guhanathan through Madhurageetham. Chandrabose had been suffering from liver and kidney ailments the last few months and was admitted to a city hospital after slipping into a coma. He died at the hospital around 9.30 am on Thursday. The last rites will be held on Friday. He is survived by two wives, Rajeshwari and Geetha and kids, Santhosh, Vinod and Gouri.
