CHENNAI: Get set for fashion, glamour and business, as the Gitanjali Lifestyle Chennai International Fashion Week 2011 beings on Thursday.

The three-day extravaganza will feature nine designers and special shows by Lawman pg3, Storm Style and Galatta at Hotel Ambassador Pallava.

Gitanjali Lifestyle, a retail segment of the Gitanjali group, has been one of the main sponsors of the CIFW for the past two years. And this year, they remain one of the key sponsors of the jewellery line.

“Jewellery today is an important part of a woman’s attire and a key accessory in her overall look. Events like this help us integrate our brands better with the larger fashion world, and reach out to the modern, fashion-conscious consumer,” says Mehul Choksi, CMD, Gitanjali Group. “Chennai consumers are now opting for a contemporary look over traditional styles. Buyers in Chennai are quality-conscious, and have willingly accepted brands for the assurance that they provide.”

From designers, models, choreographers and makeup artistes, to buyers and retailers; the event is a networking point for the industry.

The first day of the fashion week will kickstart with  Mona Pali, who present their collection for the second time at the CIFW. This will be followed by shows from designers Aruna Singh from Jaipur and James Ferreira from Mumbai, and Galatta .

What to look for

Kolkata-based designer  brand Mona Pali will present its collection, inspired from jewellery. Titled Jewels of India, Mona Pali has used semi-precious stones in this collection.

“The concept of this collection is dressing and undressing. Our brand is quite popular in Chennai and this time we hope to meet new buyers. The entire collection revolves around jewellery. We have created detachable stones, taken from bangles, danglers, cocktail rings and necklaces. Any embellishment attached to the clothes is detachable,” says Pali Lamba.

This time, Chennai will witness relaxed and easy silhouettes, jumpsuits with ornamented belts, sarees with cape in tussar, and satin fabrics on the ramp.

The colour palette is a blend of vibrant shades with darker hues.

Purple, brown and blue highlighted with pink, red, turquoise and orange are some of the blends.

Among the other designers who will be showcasing on the following days are Anuradhaa Bisani, Rehane, Julie Idi Amin, Krishna Mehta, Ankitha Chaudary and Archana Kochhar.
