CHENNAI: A 15-year-old boy's hand was caught while riding an escalator at MRTS railway station in Chepauk on Friday.
He was rescued by personnel of the Fire and Rescue Services department. Around 5 pm, Prem, a Class IX student, and his mother were coming down the escalator at the railway station in Chepauk, Fire Service sources told Express. The mother-son duo was residents of Ambattur.
Prem slipped and fell and his hand was trapped between the escalators.
The sources said '108' Emergency Services was informed, which, in turn, called the Triplicane Fire Station.
A vehicle from Triplicane and another from Esplanade, carrying rescue equipment, rushed to the spot. Station Officer H Kothandam of Sembium Fire Station conducted the rescue operation.
With the help of a crowbar, the steps were nudged open and the boy's trapped hand released.
Except for peeling of the skin at the elbow, the boy was unharmed, the sources said.
He was taken to the Government General Hospital, from where he was discharged later.
Egmore Railway police inspector Jaishanker visited the spot and conducted an inquiry.
