CHENNAI: The Indian Medical Practitioners’ Cooperative Pharmacy and Stores Limited (IMPCOPS) inaugurated Dr Anandakumar Memorial IMPCOPS Hospital building at Thiruvanmiyur on Wednesday.
State Finance Minister K Anbazhagan, while inaugurating the hospital said, “Earlier there was secrecy in the preparation of Siddha medicines despite being passed down through generations by family members. Now, thanks to IMPCOPS, it is open for all.”
He said, “IMPCOPS has lent credibility to Siddha medicines.” The building was named after the late Dr Anandakumar, who had been the president of IMPCOPS for 17 years and a pioneer in elevating Siddha practice at par with allopathy.
“Dr Anandakumar’s relentless efforts have helped in creating awareness about Siddha medicine. Now it is recognised as a separate branch of medicine,” said Dr A Ramalingam, president of IMPCOPS.
Dr G Veluchamy, retired Director of Central Research Institute of Siddha, Chennai, prof P Jayaprakash Narayanan, chairman, Scientific Advisory Committee of Siddha, Dr K Palanichamy, special officer in research group on AIDS under ISM-Siddha, who were the close associates of Dr Anandakumar offered felicitations.
Anandi, daughter of Dr Anandakumar was also present. The hospital has various departments offering Siddha, Ayurveda and Unani consultations.
Special treatments for rheumatism, jaundice, liver inflammation and peptic ulcer are provided.
