CHENNAI: Around 2,000 employees of Chennai-based CSS Crop, an ITES company, has come out with an innovative GPS tracking system that tracks and monitor the movement of cabs engaged to pick up and drop.

“In case a women employee happens to be the last one to be dropped, a security guard or a male employee accompanies her till she is dropped at her destination. Additionally, there is a red mark on the software that enables the tracking team at CSS Crop to monitor that cab until she is dropped at her house,” said Kumar Ekambaram, Chief People Offi cer of the CSS Crop.

As concerns over safety of women employees of IT companies (who work late nights) were being raised after few gruesome incidents of murder and rape, CSS Crop decided to provide a full proof security service for their employees.

It’s a unique system integrating two simple technologies — GPS and Radio Frequency Identifi cation (RFID) to keep track of the movement of cabs.

“Before boarding the vehicle, the employees have to compulsorily swipe their access card in the card readers to confi rm their boarding. The boarding time is also captured and recorded,” said Kumar.

The GPS fi tted in the vehicle would be monitored at the offi ce. Also, an SMS will be sent to all the employees directing them to board their respective cabs immediately after they complete their shift, he said.

The CSS Corp is also planning to throw open live cab status to the family members or care takers of the employees on. A unique log in ID and password will be given to parents, he added.
