CHENNAI: Actress Alphonsa filed a petition at the city police commissionerate on Monday alleging that her lover’s father had threatened her and some of his relatives had demanded money. She alleged in her complaint that the father of Vinoth Kumar alias Sai, who committed suicide on March 4, had threatened her and his relatives demanded money for not troubling her in the issue of Vinoth Kumar’s suicide case. In her petition she demanded action against the relatives.
MV Gati Pride Captain Held
The city police arrested the captain and chief officer of MV Gati Pride anchored at the Chennai Port on Monday in connection with the death of a sailor. Police arrested Rajesh Singh (39), captain of MV Gati Pride, flying a Panamanian flag, and Ranvindra Kumar (29), chief officer, following a complaint from the wife of the deceased officer. Police said TS Frank Midson (35) of Pammal, a sailor in the ship, met with an accident and died while at work. Police sources said that the ship had been anchored in the harbour for quite some time due to issues of wages.
Man Kills Brother Over Affair
A 40-year-old man hacked his brother to death for allegedly having an illicit affair with the former’s wife at Koyembedu on Monday. Police said ‘Blade’ Venkatesan, who was lodged in Central Prison, Puzhal, in connection with a case a few weeks ago was out on bail on Monday. He had reached home at South Mada Street in Koyembedu when he got furious to see his wife and brother Bhutto together. In a fit of rage, Venkatesan hacked Bhutto to death. The Police have registered a case in this regard and are on the lookout for the absconding man.
Mentally-ill Patient Run Over
A 26-year-old patient, who escaped from the Institute of Mental Health at Aynavaram, died after a lorry hit and killed him raising concerns over the security in the hospital on Monday. The lorry driver was arrested.
Police said Sundarajan (26) of Porur, was admitted to IMH in December 2011. On Monday, he escaped from the hospital and attempted to cross the Konnur High Road when a lorry hit him and he died.Driver Abdul Samadh was arrested as Police registered a case.
Spl Camp Inmate on Hunger Stir
An inmate at the Chengelpet Special Camp for foreigners, who allegedly got his detention quashed in the Madras HC, began a hunger strike on Monday demanding judicial probe after he was arrested recently. Karunairaj alleged that after his detention was quashed in the court, he was arrested in connection with a case in Coimbatore. “But they could not remand me as I had obtained bail in that case. I want to know what legal rights did they have to arrest me. The HC quashed my detention in the camp on February 29,” he said.
