CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council (TFPC) hasn’t given in to the threat of Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) to stall the shooting of all Tamil films in India and abroad from April 7. Reacting to FEFSI’s announcement made on Tuesday, TFPC on Wednesday declared that it has resolved to continue shooting.
“Producers are worst affected due to the strike, as FEFSI members go to other language industries for work. While Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and even Hindi film industries have their own labour association, only Tamil movie producers were gracious to work with FEFSI alone,” said TFPC president S A Chandrasekaran. The council members cite the demand of unreasonable hike in wages as the major factor for the breakdown in negotiations.
According to TFPC, the common understanding between them and FEFSI is that shooting would not be stopped when negotiations are on to resolve issues, however, FEFSI did not cooperate on the sets of films ‘Alex Pandian’ and ‘Kaatumalli’ last month.
