CHENNAI: The offices of various government departments, which were wrecked by fire two days ago, started functioning from alternative venues on Wednesday. While the Social Welfare Department has been shifted to the premises of a corporation school in Chintadripet, the Commercial Taxes Department has been moved to a building in Mandaiveli. The office of the Inspector of Factories moved to the office of the Labour department on Anna Road. The employees of the CT department said that it would take at least six months to get everything back on track after getting details from the district headquarters. Social Welfare department staff said information about welfare schemes, attendance register, files on promotions etc have been completely damaged and their first task is to recover the details from other parts of the State.
Though a new building is planned in place of the gutted one, the staff of the shifted departments feel that they should be accommodated in the Ezhilagam complex for better coordination.
