It is not difficult to imagine why a room with 10 life size notice boards with as many as 20 photos stuck onto them will not be enough to map the journey of Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust. Founded in 1988, the trust is an organisation which caters to the cultural, spiritual and economic needs of society.

‘Pictures tell a thousand stories’ – keeping in mind the age-old saying, the members of the organisation scanned 2,500 photos taken over a period of 25 years and have put them up to give  viewers a fair idea of the kind of work they have done so far.

“We could have easily celebrated our silver jubilee year in a different way but we chose to display photographs so that viewers and visitors can have a closer look at what we have done,” says C S Ravindran, one of the trustees.

Explaining the title of the heritage photo collection, ‘Within me’, he says, “The title of the exhibition was given by ‘Mathioli’ R Saraswathy, founder and president of the trust. She has chosen such a name because she is extremely attached to the work and time she has invested all these years.”

As he walked around the room pointing to pictures he considered important, he says, “Currently, we are working on the Bala Krishna Project under which we planned to deliver milk twice a week to economically backward schools. After a couple of weeks we saw the difference it brought to the attendance level and changed it to thrice a week.”

Apart from an ENT centre, the trust runs a subsidised dialysis centre in the city and organises activities for financially weaker sections of the society.

The Heritage Photo Collection will be on till July 31 at the Suraksha ENT Centre, 3rd floor, 64/2, Dr Ranga Road, Mylapore.
