Standing outside the Sethu Baskara Matriculation Higher Secondary School were a group of students from the school playing various instruments, eagerly awaiting the arrival of the guests of the day. When the car finally arrived, they were excited to see 15 foreign students from the University of Florida, who were visiting their school.

As part of the ‘study abroad programme’, the students from Florida are here in India for over a month to learn about various NGOs and how they operate. Setha Baskara School is one of the NGOs they are visiting.

Sethu Bhaskara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, run by the Sethu Valliammal Educational Trust, started its educational service 25 years ago.

Thrilled to see the warm reception they received, students from the University said they were moved by the love the students displayed and were excited to be here.

Students who are here in India from the University of Florida, fifth largest university in the US, will also visit NGO’s in Delhi and Jaipur, apart from Chennai.

“I have heard a lot about India and I really wanted to visit the country and learn about the culture, and that is why I am here,” said Ida Sessani, one of the visiting American students.
