To make it or break it?

It was the ancient Babylonians and Romans who made promises to their gods at the start of every year — this could range from paying back debts to sacrificing to appease the deity. Fast forward to the present year, and people are still making resolutions each new year, if only to themselves. Some are trivial, some serious, but everyone wants to stick to their decisions. Inevitably, the resolve weakens and the plans to hit the gym everyday, or to save money fall by the way. So how well have Chennai’s celebs fared?

It was the ancient Babylonians and Romans who made promises to their gods at the start of every year — this could range from paying back debts to sacrificing to appease the deity. Fast forward to the present year, and people are still making resolutions each new year, if only to themselves. Some are trivial, some serious, but everyone wants to stick to their decisions. Inevitably, the resolve weakens and the plans to hit the gym everyday, or to save money fall by the way. So how well have Chennai’s celebs fared?

Saindhavi, playback singer

Every year on December 31 night, I make it a point to participate in Carnatica organised at the Music Academy by Sashi Kiran. This event sees the participation of all carnatic singers. I took a resolution that my year should start on a musical note and so it did. I am glad at the half way mark in the year that my songs have been well appreciated in movies like Deiva Thirumagal, Saguni, etc. I am very happy that I have been nominated in the Best Playback singer category for the Southern Filmfare Awards for the song Vizhugalil Oru Vanavil from Deiva Thirumagal.

B V Ramanan, playback singer

One of my resolutions at the start of the year was a basic one — to wake up early, as schedules in the music field are quite erratic most of the time. But at half way mark, I feel I have been successful in fulfilling this basic resolution. On the musical front, I took up a resolution to pay attention to basic details in the field of music which are compromised today. With the functioning of my music school I have been able to focus on this important aspect as well.

Vikranth, actor

I did not take any resolutions for the past couple of years. I figured, anyway I’m going to break them, so why bother. Earlier it used to be small things like waking up earlier and driving more carefully. Now I try to work on these things constantly and not put them down as resolutions.

Divya Raheja, entrepreneur and footwear designer

My news year’s resolution for this year was to complete last years’ resolution — that was to lose all the weight I gained thanks to all my lazy college years. It’s the hardest resolution for me to keep, since I live to eat rather than eat to live. I’ve sort of married Quaker oats; I swear by it now! With regular work outs for the past three months, I’ve lost 11 kgs so far. I’m still not there yet though, but I feel so good about myself right now!

Srilekha Parthasarathy, singer

At the start of the year I took up simple resolutions, like doing regular yoga and try to be less judgemental about people. At the half way mark, I feel I have been successful in fulfilling these basic resolutions. On the musical front I took up and which I am currently working on is to venture into a different kind of singing apart from singing folk songs.

Prithvi Rajan, actor

One of my resolutions was to quit eating fried foods, and sticking to the healthy diet prescribed for me. I started off pretty strong, but when you’re out with family or friends, the temptation is quite high. That lasted for about two months, I got discouraged and caved. The other big change I wanted to make was to control my anger and that is something I have been working on consciously. Hopefully I will improve by the end of this year.
