Anushri Jain and Sara Vetteth’s furniture collection at Palmyra Home is a celebration of wood in its character.

There are designs that are inspired and there are those that inspire the buyer. Anushri Jain’s ‘High On Design’ range that is on display at Palmyra Home belongs to the second category. The info-system-management-professional-turned-designer’s exquisite pieces of furniture explore elements of wood. Take the ellipse seater or the bar log stool, the pieces don’t compromise on comfort for style and look. Jain explains, “I work on clean geometrical patterns and lines. There is a character to all of them. Most importantly, they are all limited edition. Even if I try to recreate a few pieces, they cannot be identical or anything similar to what has been done before.”

Jain, who obtained a degree in furniture designing from Florence, Italy, works closely with carpenters from Bihar who convert huge logs of wood into fine piece of art that double up as furniture.

Sara Vetteth, who again works exclusively with wood and the brain behind Palmyra Home, yet again explores the material in its myriad moods. From an antique rafter that has been converted to the table top of a coffee table to a Gujarathi spice repository, Vetteth’s collection are examples of simple creativity. Vetteth a digital interface expert, who has a Masters in Design and Technology from Parson’s school of Design, New York, took to wood smitten by its simplicity and versatility.

Vetteth’s range converts traditional designs into ornate and simple pieces on wood like the Kerala door lock on a coffee table.

She says, “After working in digital interface, I wanted to be involved in designing a product that can be seen more visibly. Wood is something that I have always liked to work with as a material. There are so many varieties of it and they can look grand and elegant.”

(The wood furniture range is on sale till November 10 at Palmyra Home, 25, Kotturpuram Main Road,  11am - 7pm.Contact 044  2447 0438 for details.)
