4-month-old chokes on breast milk, dies in Chennai

A four-month-old baby died of asphyxiation after his mother’s milk blocked the windpipe, in Kilpauk here on Sunday.

Police said Gracy (32) of Pullapuram and her family returned home on Saturday night after attending a mourning in the neighbourhood. Tired, Gracy decided to nurse the baby while lying down. She put the infant to sleep before she retiring for the night. On feeling the chillness of the baby’s body, she woke up in the wee hours of Sunday. The baby was rushed to a private pediatric hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The baby was then moved to the GG Hospital.

Kilpauk police inspector Kaniappan said the preliminary postmortem report suggested that the baby had died of asphyxiation after milk blocked the windpipe. The baby was yet to be named. Gracy, married for three-and-a-half years also has a one-and-a-half-year-old son. A case had been registered and investigations are on.

15-yr-old Drowns in Thiruvotriyur

A 15-year-old boy drowned in Thiruvotriyur, here on Sunday night. Police said Hariprasad of Thiruvotriyur, who went to have a frolicking dip, drowned. He left home before 3.30 pm and was not spotted anywhere in the neighbourhood. Meanwhile, a passerby tipped off the police about a body which was washed ashore in the sea opposite to Palagaithotti Kuppam in Ennore Express Way.It was identified as that of Hariprasad. A case was registered and further investigations are on.

Woman’s Body Found Floating in Canal

The body of a 55-year-old flower vendor was found floating in a canal near the railway tracks at Thailavaram village near Guduvanchery in Kanchipuram district on Monday. Police suspect a gang could have physically assaulted her before murdering her. Police said V Sakuntala (55), wife of Vedapuri, a security guard with a private company went to sell flowers on Sunday evening and did not return home. Her husband made a complaint with the Guduvanchery police after he searched for her in vain. On Monday morning, the body was found in the canal. Her body was sent to Chengalpattu Hospital for autopsy.
