The ongoing Handloom Mela, organised by the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India (CCIC), which was supposed to come to a close on October 15, has now been extended to October 19. The mela is an exclusive exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts and handlooms from across the nation.
The exhibition, which was inaugurated by Anjali Rai, chairperson, CCIC, is on at Cottage Industries Emporium, 672, Anna Salai, Temple Tower, Nandanam.
The exhibition-cum-sale is to encourage Indian craftsmen and give them an access to a wider market, both at home and abroad, and an opportunity to market handicrafts by pricing them at acceptable rates and promoting their benefits to consumers.
From Orissa sarees, Madhubani hand-painted sarees, Mangalgiri sarees, Kalamkari hand-painted sarees, Bagru sarees to Pashmina, Jamavar and embroidered shawls from Kashmir, this exhibition is about colours and designs that are unique and which give new dimensions and bold new expressions to traditional Indian handicrafts and handlooms.
