"To become an achiever, one must put in efforts persistently. Given that the youth of our nation comprise a significant part of its demography, this only means that their efforts will shape India’s future,” said Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Museums, S S Jawahar.

He pointed out that the global population in the employable age, in the age group of 15-40, would reach 200 million by 2020, of which India’s share would be about 50 million. He added that if the youth are to make any positive contribution to the nation, they must acquire the right skills.

He was delivering the chief guest’s address during the inaugural of a two-day exhibition on travel tourism — ‘Explore, Exhibit and Educate’ at the Government Museum on Monday in concordance with the Mehta Institute of Career Training (MICT).

Averring that the youth need to possess the proverbial fire in their bellies – as suggested by former President A P J Abdul Kalam – if they are to make an impact in society, Jawahar said, “Success also needs a lot of passion backed by a solid plan of action. Without proper planning even the best of efforts can falter.”

The event also witnessed the participation of the chairman and executive director of MICT, R Ashok Kumar Mehta and R Srilekha, respectively. This was followed by a symposium, involving expert speakers deliberating on various aspects of tourism and a workshop on ‘Museum and mankind’ by Jawahar.

A travel tourism exhibition, with exhibits by students of various city schools and colleges, including the Stella Maris College, B S C Jain College, Maharishi Vidya Mandir and Karpavalli Vidyalaya, was also organised. The exhibits were based on the landscapes of Chennai and tourism hotspots of Tamil Nadu.
