Wildlife Week celebrations come to a close

Students from across the State won prizes for various competitions on the last day of the Wildlife Week celebrations here on Monday. The programme was held at the Children’s Park, Guindy. As part of the Wildlife Week (October 2-8), the Forest Department conducted various competitions including painting, debate and quiz for school and college students at the district level.

The winners of the competitions participated in the final round. K T Pachamal, Minister for Forests, gave away the prizes to the winners at the function which was also attended by Chennai Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy.

Also seen at the event were Chitlapakkam Rajendran, Member of Parliament; Senthamizhan, Member of Legislative Assembly; C V Shankar, Principal Secretary, Environment and Forests; R Gunasekaran, Chief Wildlife Warden; Goutham Dey, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests; and K S S V P Reddy, Director of Arignar Anna Zoological Park. Also, a sum of `40 lakh was distributed as loan to 38 women self-help groups.
