It’s not every day that an exhibition is organised by a college student. Less likely so, a fashion-meets-trendy crafts collection with brands and designers from across the country. However Prerna Jain, an Electronic Media student has always hoped to do just that. Says the 20-year-old, “For a long time, I’ve wanted to create a platform to integrate start-up designers from say, Mumbai and Kolkata, to those in Chennai,” she says. Titled ADORA, an acronym for ‘And extensive display of myriad designer apparels, the two-day exhibition will take place today and tomorrow.

The youngster, evidently big on fashion herself by the looks of her pastel green suitcase-style handbag, is hoping to give Chennai a taste of fresh brands pan-India. From Itsy Bitsy (Kolkata) who specialise in crafting tote bags from rexine and chocolate boxes to ethnic-style kitsch products from Kili (Bangalore) in vibrant colours (Think  piggy banks, paper weights and more), There will also be tunics and salwar suits from Savitha Jain who emulates the likes of fashion greats like Rohit Bal and Manish Malhotra in her creations and midi dresses, jumpsuits and flowing gowns by Sagal Bedi (Delhi). Ladies, get ready to put your shopping shoes on.

(The exhibition will be held on October 18 and 19 at Megh Villa, 36, Thambuswamy Road, Kilpauk between 10.30am and 7.30pm. For details, contact 9840695508.)
