“Creating a book of cartoons is not an easy job. It’s a challenge and requires strong commitment. He is a visionary and will achieve many laurels in future”.

Words of praise for budding cartoonist Vijay, from veteran Mathi of Dinamani and the New Indian Express.

TNPSC chairman R Nataraj released the book titled ‘Vijay’s book of cartoons’ and Mathi received the first copy at a function in Loyola College recently.

The cartoons, on the evils of society, politicians, rich and poor, beggars and teenagers, not only provide comic relief, but are also thought provoking, speakers said.

Vijay, a 19-year-old student of Loyola College, is the youngest cartoonist in Asia to publish a book on cartoons. Nataraj said Vijay was in the mould of great cartoon legends such as R K Laxman, Ajith Ninan, Madhan, Keshav, Surendra and Mathi. “The young boy has a bright future,” he added.

G Subramanian, former professor and head of the department of English, Anna University, said Vijay’s maturity reflected in his work, particularly political satire.

Former judge Pugalenthi and Devraj, professor of English, Loyola college, compared Vijay’s work with those of famous cartoonists.

Vijay has designed logos for many organisations including Loyola FM radio services. His cartoons also found their way inside Tamil magazines. In cartoon competition, his work was ranked as among the best by readers.
