Acclaimed chest physician and pioneer of HIV care in the south, Dr C N Deivanayagam, died at a private hospital on Monday. He had been battling cancer for over a year. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, who stay in the USA. Doctors said he died at 2.15 pm on Monday, following multi-organ failure, days after he turned 70.

Dr Chettikulam Nellainayagam Deivanayagam, or Dr CND as he was known,  had set up the service for HIV patients at the GH of Thoracic Medicine in Chromepet in 1992. He also started the Health India Foundation that integrated Siddha and Allopathy to treat patients.
