A special convocation was organised by University of Kalyani, West Bengal, to confer an honorary degree on city-based doctor, founder and managing director of MIOT Hospitals, Dr PVA Mohandas recently.

MK Narayanan, Governor of West Bengal, who was present at the event, said that MIOT has not just made an impact in India but outside the country as well.

He recalled how German Chancellor mentioned to the Prime Minister of India about the advancement in the field of traumatology in India. “I was a national security advisor. I remembered Mohandas’ association with experts in Germany and told the Chancellor about MIOT,” he said, prior to presenting the degree.

The Governor and former national security advisor also said that it was the executive council that sought his approval to organise a special convocation to personally handover the degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) and that he had never told anyone about his long association and friendship with Mohandas.

After receiving the degree, Dr PVA Mohandas recalled the support from his family and colleagues in Germany to set up the hospital. “I started with 50 rooms and 50 patients and today I have 100 rooms and 47 specialties,
