The valedictory function of the centenary celebrations of CSI Ewart Matriculation School was held in the city on Monday.

Rev V Devasahayam, Bishop in Madras, Church of South India, presided over the function and recalled  the  services of Christian missionaries, who started schools across Tamil Nadu and provided education to the underprivileged.

Anand A Samuel, pro-vice-chancellor of VIT University, who narrated a story in his valedictory address, said: “Three apples changed the world. The first one, which finds a mention in the Bible, was the one eaten by Eve, that changed mankind. The second apple which fell on Newton’s head led to the discovery of a new science world. And the third apple, a company started by Steve Jobs, changed the entire IT world.” The fourth apple must be from Ewart, Samuel said.

K Venkataraman, Judge, High Court of Madras, advised students to remember the teachers who taught them in their early years.

The alumni association of the school donated Rs 20,000 to two homes rendering social services, through their centenary outreach project.

The retired staff of the school and the students who had cent per cent attendance in their first two terms in the current academic year, were also felicitated on the occasion.

The students presented various cultural programmes and mesmerised the audience with their commendable performance.

Rajya Sabha member N Balaganga, Villivakkam MLA JCD Prabhakar, CSI Diocesan Education Officer S Arulnathan, E M Victor,  Correspondent, Diocesan Matriculation Schools,  and principal Sheila Lawrence participated in the event.
