The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is to conduct a three-day programme to train the members of School Management Committee here, from February 11 to 13.
According to the sections 21 (1) and (2) of Right of Children To Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, all the schools must form a School Management Committee (SMC) whose members should comprise parents, teachers and representatives from local authority.
The SMC must ensure proper utilisation of grants received from the government, prepare and recommend the school development plan and other such functions that are prescribed.
To train the members of SMC in performing those functions, SSA has organised a three-day training programme here.
Speaking to City Express, P Aiyannan, Additional Chief Education Officer, SSA, said, “In this three-day programme, the members from SMC will be trained in effective implementation of RTE Act.
They will be put in training in areas like Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), Child Rights, problems pertaining to education and other major areas of RTE through practical way of training such as school visits.”
He added, “Totally 14 government and government-aided schools have been selected from Zone 1 and Zone 10, seven schools from each zone. Six SMC members from each schools are taking part in this programme. 42 participants will be given training at SSA Zonal Office of George Town (Zone 1) and the remaining will be imparted training at Chennai Primary School of Taramani (Zone 10). This residential training programme will soon be extended to all other districts of Tamil Nadu.”
