

Consecration ceremony would be held at the 500-year-old Sri Kalikambal temple located at Thambu Chetty Street on Broadway in the city on January 23.
The temple, regarded as one of the 51 Sakthi Peetams in India, was last consecrated in 2001, temple authorities said at a press meet here on Thursday.
The legendary king Chatrapathi Shivaji and poet Subramanya Bharati are believed to be among the famous people who had worshipped at the shrine.
Speaking to Express, V Somasekara Sivacharya, ‘yaaga sarvabothagam’ of the temple said, “We are to conduct the consecration in two phases. From 11th January, special poojas and vedic chants will be held as a prelude and the 13-day event will culminate on the consecration day and taking the deity through the streets on Simha Vahanam”.
For the first time, the consecration would be conducted with sacred water from the Ganges.
The temple management decided to provide annadhanam.
The consecration expenses of about `2 crore would be borne by the Sivacharyar Trust. State government ministers and other officials would attend the function, temple authorities added.
