International conference on surface engineering from August 7

Rajalakshmi Institutions (Rajalakshmi Engineering College and Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology), in association with the International Union of Surface Finishers and the Singapore Surface Engineering Association is organising an International conference on Surface Engineering for Research and Industrial Applications called Interfinish SERIA 2013 Asia Pacific from August 7 to 9.

The event will be inaugurated by Padma Bushan Dr V K Saraswat, Former Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DG DRDO and SA to RM. Surface engineering is a nascent industry and faces enormous challenges in the ever demanding market.

The technologies cover a set of modification process at the surface providing the material new or unique appearance, functionality and improved performance. This surface modification techniques encompasses areas from conventional protective plating up to complex deposition or functionalisation procedures in fields as diverse as Automotive, Aerospace, Microelectronics, Nuclear, Biomedicine and a major component in semiconductor process and package development.

The conference is dedicated to Surface Finishing, Surface Engineering, Surface Coating, Electroplating and Precision Engineering and offers a platform for interaction among scientists, practitioners, academics and commercial establishments covering the full spectrum of activities of industries located in India as well as South East Asia region. The event, a first of its kind in South India offered by an educational institution, conference will also have a mini trade fair with leading industries participating in exhibiting their latest equipments and processes.

The conference has over 9 plenary speakers, 70 keynote speakers and invited speakers along with over 100 paper presentations from researchers from both academics and industry. Participants from countries such as USA, UK, Russia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain and Malta have confirmed their registrations. Parallel Workshops on Heat Treatment, corrosion protection, plasma coatings, cyanide free plating and nanotechnology by experts from UK, Korea, Singapore and India is planned for academicians, students and practicing engineers.
