A hair stylist poisoned his two daughters before hanging himself from the ceiling of his residence here on Thursday night. He was apparently depressed as he was unable to start his own business venture that his wife was pressuring him to do.

Police said Parthiban (38), a resident of Mohanlal Chowhan Street in Thattankulam in Pulianthope, was found hanging when his nephew Kumaran came to fetch a cellphone charger at 10.30 pm on Thursday. With the help of neighbours, the door was forced open and the lifeless body of Parthiban was lowered.

They also found both his daughters — Pavithra (5) and Sandhya (4) — lying dead with froth coming out of their mouths. All three bodies were moved to Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital for post-mortem. Parthiban had used a nylon rope to hang himself and allegedly poisoned the kids with a lemon-flavoured soft drink laced with mite killer fluid.

Police said that on Thursday, Parthiban returned home from his in-laws’ house in Thirumullaivoyal. He reportedly left his wife Kavitha alias Malarvizhi (32) there and brought the kids along with him lying to her that he was taking them to the V adapalani temple.

Kavitha called Parthiban around 9.15 pm and was told that he was at home and never went to Vadapalani.

Kavitha insisted that he went back to Thirumullaivoyal with the kids, but Parthiban refused, instead insisting that Kavitha comes home, police said.

A little later, he mixed poison with soft drinks and offered it to the kids. The children swooned after consuming the poison-laced drink. He then made a noose with the nylon rope and hanged himself. He did not leave behind any suicide note, the police added.

Pulianthope Inspector Frank D Ruban registered a murder case against Parthiban for poisoning his daughters. Preliminary investigations revealed that the hair stylist was upset since he could not mobilise enough capital to set up his own saloon.
