Empee chief files plea to stop cops from 'harassing' staff

M P Purushothaman, chairman of Empee Group of companies, moved the Madras High Court to restrain police from harassing his employees, relatives and servants under the guise of investigations.

In his writ petition on Tuesday, Purushothaman said that following a mishap involving a car belonging to his company on May 23, in which a 13-year-old boy died, police charged three persons, including his son Shaji.

On pretext of searching for Shaji, police were entering premises 0f his companies and detaining staff illegally. Everyday, two-three workers were taken for interrogation. The  police were also detaining his relatives and maids.

So far, 50 persons were being taken by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic Investigation) Anna Nagar, for questioning, Purushothaman contended.
