A 56-year-old man, his 19-year-old daughter and her one-month-old son born without a wedlock, were found dead in their farm land near Periyapalayam in neighbouring Tiruvallur district, Tuesday morning.
Police said the family was taunted by people of Siruvapuri Village near Arani near Periyapalayam for the teen giving birth to a baby out of wedlock.
Arumugam, a farmer, was living separately with his daughter Megala after both his wives deserted him. Megala, who got friendly with one Parthasarathy, her neighbour, had become pregnant and underwent abortions twice. But the third pregnancy could not be aborted. She gave birth to a baby boy at Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital last month.
Arumugam took his daughter back to the village post-delivery and the family was taunted by the villagers who would pass lewd comments on Megala and call Arumugam by names.
Upset over this, Arumugam locked his house Monday night and took his daughter and his grandson to a farm. He fed the child a sweet dipped in pesticides. He and his daughter too consumed it. Later, the three were found dead in the farm.
Sources said Megala had insisted Parthasarathy, a flower seller at a temple in Arani, to marry her.
She also lodged a complaint with the Tiruvallur Police seeking to unite them following which the police summoned Parthasarathy on Monday, but he refused to marry her.
The family was upset over this as well. A case has been registered.
Tailor kills self
A 45-year-old tailor from Guduvancherry and his wife consumed poison here on Tuesday after they reportedly learnt that their daughter had got married to a person against their wish. The man died and his wife is battling for life.
Police said Anand of Revathipuram in Urapakkam, a tailor, and his wife Sumathi, (35), were found lying unconscious by the neighbours when they checked on them late Monday night. They moved the couple who were frothing in their mouths to Chromepet Government Hospital where the doctors declared Anand dead on arrival and admitted Sumathi to intensive care unit (ICU).
Preliminary investigations revealed that Anand’s daughter Sushmita (18), a Fashion Technology student at a private college in Coimbatore, had reportedly eloped with her boyfriend Raja from their neighbourhood.
The news of their marriage reached Anand who was upset over the issue which made him and his wife take the drastic step.
