For all those sons and daughters living with their fathers, celebrating Father’s Day would be all about buying a few gifts and spending time with their fathers. But for those living away from their dads, celebrating the day in honour of them is just much more difficult.
Vijayalakshmi Ambalavan, who works with an education consultancy, India has always taken time off to make the best of the Father’s Day, but this time around her dad is away in Kuwait. But this, she says doesn’t have to be a spoiler.
“There are so many creative ways these days to wish your dad on the father’s day. There are a number of online greeting card sites, many of which are exclusively designed for Father’s Day. Another better way would be to make your own customised greeting card with a software programme,” she says.
Going with the trend, e-greeting or electronic greeting card sites like 123greeting.com now have about 250 greeting cards specially designed for Father’s Day. There are also cards specifically meant for daughters to give to their fathers.
And mostly importantly, these e-cards come with customisation applications that let one add a personalised quote or an audio clipping to the card.
Social networking sites like Facebook have also emerged as an easy and key forum to send Father’s Day wishes and quotes.
“It is only when you login to Facebook that most of us even realise that it is Father’s Day. Once you come to know about it, you can quickly post some wishes online,” says Jenisha I, who works with a nationalised bank in Chennai.
While posting wishes online might be the most popular way of observing Father’s Day, not everyone is satisfied with it. Many from the younger generation have taken to online shopping and gift deliveries. Making the best of the trend, online shopping sites like Gift to India and Chennai Gift Online have exclusive gifts designed for Father’s Day which could be delivered to a father residing anywhere in the country.
