Chennaites can expect dog days ahead as the weatherman predicted that the temperatures could rise in the coming days of the ‘Kathri’ season.
With the city recording a maximum of 37.1 degrees Celsius on the first day of Kathri, considered the peak of summer, on Saturday, the maximum temperature is forecast to be around 37 degree C for the next 48 hours. Meteorological officials, however, said that the pattern of weather at this time of the year in Chennai, in the past 12 years, ranged between 39.3 degree C (in May 2004) to 45 degree C (May 2003). Hence, one could expect it to rise in the coming days.
There might be some respite from the scorching heat in some parts of the state. The first day of Kathri already saw maximum temperatures rising above 40 degree C in places like Karur Paramathi, Madurai, Palayamkottai, Tiruchy and Vellore while some parts close to the Western Ghats like the Nilgiris and Krishnagiri witnessed rain spells. While Madurai recorded 40 degrees C, Tiruchy recorded 41.5.
