Man pays with life for passing lewd remarks

A 32-year-old woman allegedly clubbed a 40-year-old neighbour to death for teasing her Sunday night in Villivakkam.

Police said Veera, a conservancy worker, reportedly drunk sitting in front of his house in Jagannathan Nagar in Villivakkam, when he attracted the ire of Selvi, his neighbour.Notwithstanding the lewd remarks and teasing, she grabbed a blow pipe from the vicinity and began raining blows on Veera who collapsed crying for help.

Neighbours who found Veera battling for life rescued him and rushed him to the Government Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

Tailor murdered

In another murder reported in the city, a 24-year-old tailor allegedly pushed his friend to death in a fisticuff for not mending the latter’s mobile phone, at Elephant Gate.

Police said Muniandi, a tailor, visited his friend Sridhar, (24), to whom he had given his broken mobile phone to be mended, a fortnight ago. Muniandi asked for the mobile which led to an argument that culminated in a fisticuff in which Muniandi pushed down Sridhar, who sustained head injuries. Sridhar was moved to a hospital where he died. 

Three die in mishap

Three persons, including a 43-year-old woman and her daughter, died on the spot, while an 18-month-old girl had a miraculous escape, when an SUV hit an autorickshaw that was trying to cross the Chennai-Bangalore highway near Kanchipuram on Monday. 

Police said Anjumozhi alias Vasantha of Pudhupattu village, Vellore district, her daughter Nagalakshmi alias Devi (25) and her granddaughter Srimathi (18 months) along with a relative, Radhakrishnan (36), were returning home from Kanchipuram in an autorickshaw.

The  vehicle was crossing the Chennai-Bangalore highway near Panapakkam Koot Road when an Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that was on its way from Chennai to Vellore rammed the auto.

The three-wheeler was thrown away and Anjomozhi, Nagalakshmi and Radhakrishnan died on the spot while Srimathi escaped and driver Arul (33) suffered a fracture in his left leg.

Police said the occupants of the SUV abandoned the vehicle and fled. A case was registered.
