Samsung launched its new smart phone series, the Samsung Galaxy Mega here on Tuesday.
The smart phone, which comes in sizes of 5.8 inches and 6.3 inches, promises to combine the portability and convenience of a smart phone with the power, multitasking and viewing experience of a tablet.
Across the globe, there has been an increase in demand for large screen smart phones, since the device is now being increasingly used for office work, entertainment and other purposes. This device combines the features for these services but at the same time is light and convenient enough to be kept in a little purse or in a shirt pocket, said Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and Digital Imaging Business (India) at the launch of the series. Taneja added that the company was focusing on increasing the smart phone market in India.
“In countries like China, 90 percent of the mobile users have taken to smart phones. We look forward to that kind of an expansion in India. In India, Samsung is definitely the market leaders accounting for 47 percent of the market share of smart phones. So far, the S4 has sold 10 million globally.” he said.
Increasing the number of services centres to distribute the phones and the quality to meet with the market demand is another focus of the company. “What we are now seeing is that across segments, there is demand for better services. We would be tackling this by increasing the number of service centres.” he said.
Both the Galaxy Mega 6.3 inches and 5.8 inches run on Android Jelly Bean and feature Dual Core Processor. The 6.3 inches device comes with an internal storage space of 16 GB and the 5.8 inches with 8GB, along with 1.5 GB RAM. Both have an expandable memory space of up to 64 GB.
Other features include 8 mega-pixel rear facing camera and 1.9 megapixel front facing camera, air view, story album, multi-window and split window experience, Google play and Samsung Chaton among others. The new ‘sound and shot’ camera mode helps capture 9 seconds of sound and voice together with the picture being taken. “So, when you share a picture, you will also be able to share the sound and feel of that moment,” said Manu Sharma, director mobile business, Samsung Electronics.
‘S Travel’ another interesting feature helps provide trip information, local guides and resources. The ‘S Translator’ provides instant translation using text and voice translation on applications like email and chaton.
The Samsung GALAXY Mega 5.8 inches will be available in the market within a week, while the GALAXY Mega 6.3 inches will be introduced in mid-June. The GALAXY Mega 5.8 is priced at Rs 25,100 and GALAXY Mega 6.3 at Rs 31,490.
