Two persons were murdered in separate incidents in the city late on Wednesday night. While 48-year-old Velu was allegedly bumped off by his wife’s paramour, Raja (25) is suspected to have been killed by his business partner.

According to police, Velu, a resident of Andiappan Street in Choolai, was hacked to death by a gang of three. Velu’s marriage to Dhanalakshmi (25), was on the rocks ever since she developed a liking for his nephew Dhandapani (25).

Almost three years ago, Velu had warned Dhanalakshmi and Dhandapani when he learnt of their relationship. This, however, failed to deter Dhanalakshmi, a mother of two, from meeting Dhandapani and Velu was forced to stay separately.

A depressed Velu repeatedly troubled his wife, who complained to Dhandapani.

Dhandapani then hatched a plan to kill his uncle and roped in his friends Appu and Kumar for help.

The trio caught Velu while he was selling fruits on the Choolai High Road around 10 pm and hacked him to death. Four persons, including Dhanalakshmi and Dhandapani, were picked up for questioning.

In the other incident, Raja (25), a resident of Bhakthavachalam Colony in MKB Nagar, was found dead on a playground around 10 pm with stab injuries.

Raja and his friend Saravanan were running a timber shop in the area, police said. They also reportedly sold red sanders for huge profits. On Wednesday afternoon, Raja and his partner reportedly had a altercation over profits, with the 25-year-old alleging that Saravanan had cheated him. Neighbours had to intervene and settle the dispute. Later in the night, Raja was found dead.

Police suspect Saravanan’s involvement as he has been absconding since the murder was reported.
