The paintings in the government-run small buses are not the symbol of any political party, Advocate-General AL Somayaji told the Madras HC on Friday.

By placing reliance on similar symbols ‘painted on green buses in foreign countries’, Somayaji told Justice KK Sasidharan that the buses launched so far did not contain the symbol of a political party. The paintings given to the buses and the picture could not be characterised as party symbol, he added. Following a query from the judge, the AG also said that there was no proposal to launch similar mini-buses at present.

The AG was responding to a writ petition from DMK treasurer MK Stalin praying for a direction to the authorities concerned to consider his representation dated October 27 last and to initiate action to remove the imprinting/painting of two sets of ‘Two Leaves’ over all the government-owned undertakings/company properties, including small buses, and consequently restrain them from utilising two leaves.
