‘Educate a girl, and you educate the nation’

If you educate a boy you educate an individual, if you educate a girl, you educate a family, the society and ultimately the nation itself, said R Thandavan, the Vice-Chancellor of Madras University. 

He was  speaking at the Graduation Day function of T S Narayanaswamy College of Arts and Science. The Vice-Chancellor alluded to Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and appreciated the college for having more than 50 per cent as girl students.

The function, which was held at Vani Mahal, saw over 202 students graduating.

The students were presented their graduation certificates by Thandavan, who was the chief guest.

During the function, the students who had secured the top three ranks were presented with cash prizes and were felicitated.

The V-C congratulated the college, which is run by India Cements Ltd., for providing education to students belonging to poorer backgrounds in the suburban areas of the city.

During his speech, he emphasised on the importance of communication and said, “The management of this college has ensured healthy practices such as memberships of British Council for faculties, periodical screening of educational videos in the college, free english skill development courses, educational visits to corporates and industrial visits. These practises ensure that a capable talent base is generated in the city.”

The Vice-Chancellor handed certificates to the students and also distributed cash prizes upto `25,000 to meritorious students.
