CHENNNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced that 15 more taluks would be created to expeditiously provide the services of the government and reduce the travelling time of the public to reach the offices concerned. With this, the total number of taluks will go up to 269.
Making a suo motu statement under Rule 110 in the State Assembly, the Chief Minister said the new taluks would be created at a total cost of Rs 45 crore.
The fresh additions would include a new taluk with Avadi as headquarter after restructuring of Ambattur and Poonamallee taluks in Tiruvallur district. Similarly, Kancheepuram taluk would be bifurcated and a new taluk with Walajabad as headquarters would come up. Tindivanam taluk in Villupuram district would be bifurcated and a new one with Marakkanam as headquarters will be created.
In Cuddalore, Chidambaram taluk would be bifurcated and a new taluk would be created with Bhuvanagiri as its headquarters. In Salem, Athur will be bifurcated to create a new one with Pethanaickenpalayam as headquarter. Namakkal taluk would be bifurcated to create a new one with Senthamangalam as headquarter. Krishnagiri and Pochampalli taluks would be restructured to create one with Bargur as headquarter. In Tiruvannamalai, Polur, Arni and Vandavasi taluks would be restructured to create a new one with Sethupattu as headquarter. Cheyyar would be bifurcated to create new one with Vembakkam as its headquarters.
In Pudukottai, Iluppur and Kulathur taluks would be restructured to create a new taluk with Viralimalai as its headquarters while Sivaganga taluk would be bifurcated to create Kalaiyarkovil headquarter.
Ramanathapuram and Kadaladi would be restructured and Keezhakkarai would be the headquarter of the new one. In Virudhunagar, Sivakasi, Rajapalayam and Sathur taluks would be restructured with Vembakottai as its headquarters. In Tirunelveli, Sankarankovil would be bifurcated to create a new one with Thiruvengadam as its headquarters. Tenkasi, Sankarankovil, Sivagiri and Sengottai would be restructured to create a new one with Kadayanallur as its headquarters.
