In a bid to crack the murder case of a 24-year-old software professional at Siruseri, CB-CID sleuths and forensic experts on Monday launched an intensive probe at the scene of the crime.
The crime had taken place barely 200 metres away from the facility of Tata Consultancy Services where the victim B Uma Maheswari was working.
The hunt for material evidences at the spot began at 6 am and continued for over five hours before the forensic experts gathered several gunny bags filled with materials, most of which having fingerprints, and sent them for analysis. However, the mobile phone of Uma, a native of Attur in Salem, which was missing from her possession and none of the contents of her handbag which was abandoned near Rajiv Gandhi Salai could not be located during the search.
For the second consecutive day, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) was used in the probe as instructed by the Director General of Police K Ramanujam to pick up movement of suspicious elements in the vicinity.
Sources said that the images could also be used to sketch the area which would come in handy in course of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the police was poring over the call records of Uma for the past one year so as to establish whether the assailant was known to her. Another team was pressed into service in Salem to gather more information about the deceased.
Yet another team was deployed to interrogate the suspects, who were earlier grilled by the police in connection with the incident.
After perusing the records of the CCTV images in the TCS facility, the video of Uma leaving the workplace on the night of February 13 at 10.14 pm established that she appeared normal and left alone by foot. It was suspected that the assailant could have been waiting for her to come out of the building.
