Colourful dance performances and the presence of Kollywood’s who’s who marked ‘Soulmates Awards 2014’, organised by Soulmates Foundation, on Sunday. The event recognised a few celebrity couples, who had played a significant role in each other’s success.

The star-studded award ceremony was also aimed at raising funds for the Foundations’ project Vizhigal that supports education of underprivileged children in rural pockets of the State.

The project that was initiated three years ago has been supporting the education of children from kindergarten to class eight. Twenty-five children were benefited in 2013 alone. “We identify children from deep rural areas in the State and provide them books and uniforms, and pay their school fees. We have so far covered 16 districts and hope to reach over 100 children this year,” said Sumathi Srinivas, founder and managing trustee, Soulmate Foundation.

Celebrity couples like music director G V Prakash and Saindhavi, and lyricist Madan Karky and his wife Nandhini, were recognised for having supported each other through rough times and achieving success. Star siblings like Venkat Prabhu and Premgi Amaren, television anchors Priyadarshini and Dhivyadarshini and choreographers Girija Raghuram, Kala, Brinda and Gayathri Raghuram too were given awards.

A few celebrities also came forward to donate for the cause. Madhan donated the amount which he earned for penning a song for the movie Ennamo Edho. Actor-director K Bhagyaraj, one of the awardees, offered support for the education of a boy and girl for a year.
