You don’t have to be a music junkie to fall in love with Allegro Fudge. There’s just something about this band. And honestly, we’re not sure if it was their catch original Eye to Eye with a sudden Super Mario improv that did for us, or an expected cover of the theme song of Baywatch. But when the Bengaluru-based band performed at Bay 146 over the weekend, folks couldn’t seem to get enough. Add to that the fact that their buff frontman writes most of his lyrics in the shower and well, who wouldn’t want to stop for chat?
City Express did a quick take 5 with the band mid-way through The Mainstage festival at The Savera hotel last weekend. In case you haven’t heard them play before, the acoustic rock oufit is made up of Jason (keys), Saahas Patil (vocals), Shalini Mohan (bass), Anish Nadh (guitars) and Shreyas Dipali (drums). Excerpts from the interview:
You guys have been killing it out there. Tell us, is a second album coming out soon?
Jason: We’re hoping to be ready with it in three or four months. It’s actually completely different from the first one, Maximum City. We have a running theme through the album which is the different stages of a man’s life and the music is quite heavy with orchestral arrangements.
Orchestral arrangements?
Saahas: Yeah this is more like Dreamtheatre, Queen stuff. You know very ballad-y theatric.
Jason: I think because we all listen to different genres of music, we don’t worry about what genre our songs are tagged under, and that’s what makes it work so well. (Smiles) Oddly enough, despite the acoustic sound we’re known for, the one genre we all have in common is heavy metal.
Does the album have a name yet?
Saahas: No, but we can tell you about our longest song on it. It’s called My Time is Now and it’s about 12 minutes...
Woah. And you’re the lyricist, it must have taken you awhile...
Not really, I mean most of my songs are kind of written in the shower.
With a pen and paper?
Saahas: (Laughs) No! I listen to metal when I’m working out, and then when I go have a bath, the lyrics just come to me... must have to do with blood flowing faster to the brain I think?
