Creating Student-Friendly Atmosphere

CHENNAI: The campus of Meenakshi College for Women sported a student friendly atmosphere with the staff and students helping those awaiting their admissions into the college, guiding them with directions.

Around 15 teachers have been deployed to manage the distribution of admission forms for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.  Students applying for seats were seen speaking to others on the credibility of the college and the courses offered.

When City Express asked R Ayswarya, a Chennai-based student, why she had applied to this college, she said, “This college (Meenakshi College) has good infrastructure and I heard they have a good faculty.”

In fact, the majority of students waiting for their admissions believed the same.

“This is our 40th year and every time, our seats in the commerce stream get filled soon,” said Dr KS Lakshmi, the college correspondent. She explained how students come in equal numbers even for science streams like zoology and biotechnology for admissions in her college.

Students from the State board schools felt that they were undoubtedly at an advantage as far as the admission procedures were concerned.

However, students from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Board were worried and apprehensive about their admissions overall.

“I did the State board and my resuts have come. So I am on the safe side,” said a student who was confident of her admission. She added that she  was worried about the admissions of her friends who had appeared for the CBSE board exams.
