CHENNAI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the suspected links between the recent blasts at Chennai Central Railway Station and Burdwan, after the call records suggested that the network from West Bengal had been in touch with a trio based here.
The trio is believed to be linked to the explosion which took place in a Madarasa in Simulia village at Mangalkote in Burdwan district, West Bengal, on October 2.
In the Chennai Central twin blasts on May 1 in Guwahati Express, the investigation is being carried out by the TN CB-CID. A woman techie from Andhra Pradesh was killed and 14 others were injured in the blasts. The CB-CID has not arrested anyone in this case so far.
Following the recent revelation of the NIA’s intent to quiz a trio from the city in connection with the Burdwan blast, the CB-CID officials are confident about cracking the case. The agency believes that it is getting closer to the accused.
“No such connection has been established so far,” said a top NIA official, when asked about the similarities in the Burdwan and Chennai blasts. The official who is privy to the investigation, however, said they have not ruled out the strong links between the two blasts. Yet, he was quick to add that disclosing further would affect the progress of the probe.
The NIA officials are expected to exchange information with the State police on antecedents of the three persons from the city whom the Central agency had issued summons for interrogation. Further, the NIA officials are also expected to gather more information about the Central Railway Station blasts as well. However, officials from both the Central agency and the State police remained tightlipped about the identity of the trio.
