CHENNAI: If you plan to get a BSNL mobile connection, your number of choice is just a click away. All that a subscriber needs to do is to visit the website (http://cymn.bsnl.co.in) and select the number of choice and key in the existing mobile number to book it. A PIN will be generated and sent to the existing mobile number as an SMS, confirming the selection. The customer can then walk in to any customer service centre of the BSNL, show the SMS and provide the address and identity proof to buy the new SIM card. For quick activation of the SIM card, there is an option to key in the address and identity details in an electronic application form on the same website. What's more, there is a provision to choose fancy numbers which will be available at a fixed rate of Rs 843.
After launching the online booking and instant activation of mobile connection facility, BSNL chief general manager (Chennai) A Subramaniam told reporters that this would cut down the delay in the registration process to avail a SIM.
"The new facility gives the customer the option to select a mobile number of his choice at a place and time at his own convenience without wasting time," he said.
The scheme was introduced following the success of providing 1.7 lakh policemen in the state with mobile connections. “We tested this model and found it successful,” a BSNL official said.
BSNL is planning to have customer care express counters to deal with online subscribers. Meanwhile, BSNL is also offering a bouquet of discounts on various services for customers during the festive season. These include bringing the tariff for video calls on a par with voice calls with effect from September 20 for a period of 90 days, Subramaniam said.
